Francine Annette Olds, MD, is a dedicated gynecologist serving the needs of the Virginia Beach, Virginia, community. Dr. Olds is commonly known as the “go-to” MD, who makes each patient’s concerns a priority with the confidence and confidentiality of both a physician and “a girl’s best friend.”
Dr. Olds has lived most of her life in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, having graduated from Indian River High School in Chesapeake, with highest honors in 1975. A born healer who was role-playing with her “Nancy Nurse doll” when she was a preschooler, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in nursing from the University of Virginia in 1979. She then worked for three years as a gynecologic oncology nurse at Duke University Hospital. It was there that she realized that her calling was to a higher and greater service as a physician, and as an advocate and provider for women’s general and reproductive health.
In 1986, she received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. From there, she was awarded a coveted internship and residency in gynecology and obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. After extensive training at Johns Hopkins (a hospital consistently ranked as the number one (#1) medical center in the nation), she began her private practice of medicine in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
She was a principal physician at Women’s Healthcare of Virginia Beach from 1990-2001. In 2001, she became the sole provider and owner of Women’s Health Choice, a division of Mid-Atlantic Women’s Care, the largest conglomerate of gynecological professionals in the Tidewater, Virginia area. There, she continues to provide premium care in a personalized manner. Dr. Olds will tell you that she has the most loyal, satisfied, and faithful patient population there is. Many of her patients are third generation.
Dr. Olds is board-certified and thus, a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Johns Hopkins Medical Surgical Association, the Virginia Beach Medical Society and the Howard Kelly Society of the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Committed to her community as well as her patients, she is often sought as a presenter, participant, and speaker at numerous social, medical, and educational events. She is a past president of the Friends of Hampton Roads, Inc. And a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Links, Inc., and The Girlfriends, Inc., all community service organizations. She serves as a role model to countless young women, both individually and collectively. Her passion for imparting proper medical management trickles down to the medical students and nurse practitioners whom she mentors.
Dr. Olds is the recipient of many awards in honor of her compassion, dedication, and proficiency, including the Upjohn Distinguished Service Award at the University of North Carolina, the USAA Science and Medicine Award and the Merck Pharmaceutical Award for Leadership in Medicine. She has also been honored as a Virginia Power Woman of Distinction and received the 2010 Hampton Roads Health Journal Reader’s Choice Award as well as being voted “Most Compassionate GYN” by her patients and www.Vital.Com.
